Fashion Friday Gets Pensive

Don’t forget to enter my giveaway for the two newest Element fitness DVDs from Anchor Bay Entertainment! Entries close this Saturday 9/8 at 11:59PM EST. And did you catch yesterday’s recipe for easy Gorton’s Seafood Grilled Fish Tacos?!

Happy Fashion Friday Friday guys! And it’s a happy Friday INDEED because Heather is coming to stay for the weekend! We have so much fun planned – Pinot Grigio + Whole Foods salads + The Hills re-runs tonight, Daybreak Coffee and other Glastonbury activities tomorrow during the day, dinner at Fire & Spice with our dear friend Jenny, and my Farm to Shaker Cocktail Competition judging on Sunday at the Coventry Farmers’ Market! TOO BLESSED TO BE STRESSED!

I am so enjoying doing these Fashion Friday posts most weeks, and I hope you’re still enjoying seeing them! I feel like I’ve been shopping a TON lately…but I continue to be a cheapo and refuse to buy the majority of what I like because it’s “too expensive” or “not worth it”. So you can imagine, with the new things I’ve been buying, how many things in stores I like but say no to! I love clothes, but I love saving a fair amount of each paycheck more!

Tee: PacSun

Skirt: H&M (Lauren has the dress with this print!)

Watch: Michael Kors

Shoes: Steve Madden

Top: LOFT

Pants, Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Ring, Bracelet: Forever 21

Watch: gift from grandpa

A better look at the shoes!

Necklace: Forever 21

Top: VS Pink

Skirt: Old Navy (had it since 7th grade!)

Sorry for blur!

Top: H&M

Pants: Urban Outfitters

Shoes: PacSun Outlet

A fun one – wore to work after completing Color Me Rad!

Headband: Sweaty Bands

Top: Color Me Rad 5K

Jeans: American Eagle

Sneakers: Converse (purchased at Delia’s)

It’s interesting that I can cut myself so much slack when it comes to shopping. I buy lots of things I don’t need, but tell myself it’s OK because I enjoy wearing new clothes and putting together new outfits, and I never spend much money at all on one piece.

However if I try to cut myself slack on things I enjoy just as much as fashion, like food and exercise, there seems to always be a reason in my head that I “shouldn’t” be cutting myself slack! I’m working on figuring out why this is. Perhaps it’s because there has never been a time in my life in which I never shopped, never purchased clothes/shoes I didn’t need, whereas there WAS a time in my life when I was overexercising and restricting my food intake at dangerous levels. So sometimes, since I know I am capable of taking it to food/exercise “extremes” (due to the fact that I’ve “been there”), a voice in my mind tells me I “should” be doing what I’m capable of.

But I know in fact that I am CAPABLE of living a happy, healthy life that consists of a balance of food and exercise, just like I balance my shopping out by buying cheaper things!

Do you ever find yourself being more hard on yourself in some areas of life than others? Why do you think people experience this?

Which outfit is your favorite? All except the last are pretty dressy, so I won’t be surprised if it’s not the last one!

Tell me something you’re doing this weekend that makes you too blessed to be stressed!

I LOVE the Color Me Rad shirt. So soft. :) As for the rest of your outfits, I think saying I would like a day to raid your closet is a huge understatement.

I definitely know what you mean about being harder on yourself than needed. It’s honestly something I struggle with every single day.

It is WAY SOFT omg! Best race shirt ever! And I’m so proud of you for making that #AmazingMe video the way you did Amanda. It’s a great way to fight those thoughts that make us so hard on ourselves and shows us that we have no reason to be!

I agree with you on school! I want to complain about it often but try to remember I’m blessed to be already working towards my MBA so soon after finishing undergrad.

I love all your shoes! They’re so cute! Steve Madden is my FAVORITE and those black heels are adorable. Your weekend sounds absolutely fabulous–have a wonderful time! I’m pumped for the first UT home game tomorrow (obvi) but not as pumped as I am for next weekend!!!!!!

WOO HOOOOO! Yes they are my STAPLE black heels I got them on Black Friday at a Famous Footwear a couple years ago. If I’d paid $200 for them instead of $30 they’d have STILL been worth it!

You’re definitely not alone in that Cait: i think a lot of people struggle with giving themselves a little bit of breathing room when it comes to food and exercise. This week, I’ve been relaxing and just going for walks, stretching and doing some yoga for my exercise and it hasn’t been particularly easy, but I know my body is really appreciating the break.

I’m so proud of you girl. That’s particularly inspiring to me because yesterday I traded in my usual thursday morning P90X yoga for a more relaxing AM yoga stretch. I know that rest is healing to the body but it has been hard for me to be OK with using my morning time to do something less “intense”. It’s comforting to hear that your body is feeling the benefits of your rest! I know mine is too! <3

J’adore your fashion posts, you got some nice clothes!! My faves= the UO shoes & the PacSun shoes, love me some brogues:). You make a gorgeous model.

I’m glad you are able to indulge your fashionista, hopefully easing up any of that food/exercise rigidity will follow suit? I know ,for me anyway, being good/nice to myself will likely be a constant work in progress.

Your weekend with Heather is gonna be AAWESOME!

Thank you for the well wishes Sarah!! I agree it is often a long path to kindness to ourselves but that’s a good point that maybe I can use my “slack” I cut myself on fashion and shopping to move toward cutting myself slack in other areas!

Yeah, food is definitely something that I am critical about as well. Nothing makes me as anxious as being around food could be for me at times. There are times when I can handle that and be happy, embracing the relationships I have with people and being present in that moment, but more often I am subconsciously thinking about their implications on my body shape (even though I know that one meal is not going to turn me into a troll the next morning). This tends to have a huge toll on me especially during exam times, and I know it affects my academic performance to quite some extent as well, unfortunately.

I’m sorry to hear that Asuma :( I hope that blogging can be a helpful outlet for you like it has been for me. Sometimes I’m grateful for academics to distract me! It’s relieving to have things that aren’t food related to worry about at times. As sad as that may sound! I just know where you’re coming from. Always wishing you the best and sending support!

Thanks girl for reading and for the compliment! I love wearing diff looks – I feel like my coworkers never know what they’ll get when I walk in, haha, especially with such a lax dress code that allows jeans. I’ll be checking out your blog too! <3

You are such a fashionista! I love these posts, and I’m in LOVE with your UO shoes!! So so cute–and chic!

I’m definitely most self-critical when it comes to the food and exercise facets of my life. We healthy living bloggers frequently talk about “practicing moderation,” however I find that I’m still trying to achieve *perfect* moderation! ;)

I hope you and Heather are having the BEST time together! Enjoy judging the Farmer to Shaker event today! Can’t wait to hear all about it. <3 xoxo

Thank you Sara! It’ll get its own post for sure. So far today has been just as wonderful as Friday and Saturday were for sure – recaps to come on that too. I don’t want to try to achieve “perfect” moderation because perfect is what I’m trying not to be – but any moderation is considered an achievement! <3
