Move, Work, Run

All three words in the title of this post could describe the same activity. After all, running involves moving, and is a lot of work. But at the start of June I had a few different big events happen in my life, and though it’s now almost August, I felt like I should write about them. Plus, I haven’t blogged in awhile and it’s getting a bit (slash REALLY) embarrassing.

As previously mentioned, Jeff and I moved in together, to a new apartment in Charlestown! It’s certainly a whole lot better than my last place in Allston (though I did love it there and it was a great starter apartment). We have a roof deck, washer/dryer, garbage disposal, dishwasher…it’s a whole new world! And it’s been nice to get some new decor like a sleeper sofa, fun dishware, and new sheets. There’s still a lot more to be done (does anyone know of a good place to get mounted deer heads on the cheap?) but it’s just been wonderful to get all that time back that we were spending commuting back and forth between each other’s places.

My So-Blogged Life

Oof, the whole spring ahead thing really did a number on me. I barely slept (exaggeration) the last couple of nights. All it takes is a missed hour or two and I am a zombie. I almost said “screw it” to my plan to straighten my hair this morning, but remembered my New Year’s Resolution and powered through. I’m glad I didn’t look out my window before making that decision, because if I had I almost definitely would have screamed “SCREW IT” when I saw that it was SNOWING. Hello weather, it’s called SPRING ahead. I shouldn’t be whining…five days until I board a plane for Mexico after all.

Tropical beverages time!

So in today’s post I’d like to address something that’s been in the back of my mind lately. I’ve only been at my new job for a week and a half, but as I anticipated, my relationship with blogging and its community has already changed. No worries…I am not putting a stop to this blog! But while chatting with Rachel yesterday over pedicures, I was inspired to write a post addressing the fact that the way I live out my life’s passions has changed. I started my blog after my last job (I was doing program management in the defense and space industry, for curious minds) was not giving me a chance to work with what I loved. After all, isn’t that what we all dream of? And then my blog really did end up leading me to a job where I can do what I love. It also happens to be a job that entails working longer hours.

Transition Tuesday: CT to Boston

Man oh man, moving involves a LOT of transitions. It seems every moment I figure out how to go about one of them, another pops up! It’s like I’m Hercules fighting the hydra.

But every little step forward, even if it’s just printing a blank form (here’s looking at you Mass RMV), makes me feel better. As does talking it out. So let’s talk about the many transitions involved in my upcoming move from Connecticut to Boston. Oh, and I’m asking you guys for advice, so advise away!

I got approved for the apartment that I put in an application for on Saturday! I overnighted the signed lease yesterday and I got a call this morning to tell me it’s official. THE APARTMENT IS MINE! My parents and I are taking a trip to Boston this Saturday to get my keys and move in a bunch of my stuff. The big move will take place next Saturday, and will involve transporting furniture like my bed, dresser, desk, a table, chairs, and more. And if there is anything at all that you have needed for your apartment that you never would have imagined…please let me know because I’m sure I’ll forget to buy a bunch of stuff I need! And I will be posting photos as soon as I can!
