Best Books of 2013

Thanks so much to all for your comments of support on yesterday’s post. I was nervous to hit publish but am glad I could provide some insight into a common ED behavior. Even if everyone couldn’t relate (which I am glad for) I appreciate the words of encouragement about my efforts to kick the habit of body checking.

And ah, here she is with another cliche best-of-2013 post! I’m trying to stop guys, I really am, but this is a tough habit to kick. And ever since Kaitlin did her top books of 2013 post, I have been wanting to do one of my own! It’s no secret that I’m a bookworm. I’m also highly organized, which makes Goodreads the perfect way for me to keep track of both books I have read, how much I liked them, and books I want to read. My “read” shelf is making it a whole lot easier right now for me to make this list; these are all books I read in 2013 that I gave five stars to.

I have read Curtis’ other books and I enjoyed this one the most. It had a little bit of supernatural going on, but not so much that I rolled my eyes. That part of the book fit seamlessly with the rest.

All I can say about almost every sentence of this book is: Too. True. So many young women will be able to relate to everything Mindy says. A passage that sticks out to me involves buying cheap Forever 21 coats so that you can leave them at house parties/lose them at bars and it won’t matter. Yes, I have done this.

I did a whole post on this book for From Left to Write but I really enjoyed not only the way the story was told, but how it all revolved around a restaurant!

Firstly I adored all the New England references in this book, like the fact that the main character (a local realtor) was always competing with Sotheby’s. I know Sarah knows that name! The main character was frustrating but also hard enough to figure out that I stuck with the book. Is she really an alcoholic, or do people just think she is?

One of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever experienced. The movie is going to make me sob like a baby. Books don’t make me cry but if they did, this one would’ve.

I love books about messed-up “Mean Girl” teens. This book had plenty of them, including your typical morally conflicted teen narrator. But it stood out from other books thanks to suspense scattered throughout. At some points I was holding my breath waiting to know what happened!

My favorite Gillian Flynn book, for sure. I was shuddering at some parts, that’s how creeped out I was. But I adored every second of it.

What’s your favorite book EVER? I really still might think mine is Ella Enchanted. I have lost track of how many times I’ve read it. And no I never did see the Anne Hathaway movie, and based on what I’ve heard I’m glad I didn’t.
